La Organizaci\u00f3n de Estados Americanos (OEA) es una organizaci\u00f3n integrada por todos los pa\u00edses del continente americano, que trabaja por la paz y seguridad, la democracia y los derechos humanos en toda Am\u00e9rica. Dentro de esta organizaci\u00f3n, funciona el Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos cuya base es la Convenci\u00f3n Americana de Derechos Humanos<\/strong> y su Protocolo adicional o Protocolo de San Salvador.<\/strong><\/p>\n El \u00f3rgano jur\u00eddico de este sistema es la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CorteIDH)<\/strong>, que se encarga de los casos en que un Estado comete violaciones contra un derecho protegido en la Convenci\u00f3n; siempre que se hayan agotado los recursos o procedimientos internos de ese pa\u00eds. Funciona en San Jos\u00e9 de Costa Rica.<\/p>\n La Comisi\u00f3n Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH)<\/strong> es la encargada de recibir, analizar e investigar peticiones individuales que alegan violaciones de los derechos humanos y visitar esos pa\u00edses. Puede realizar recomendaciones a los Estados miembros de la OEA para que garanticen los derechos humanos, o requerir medidas cautelares<\/em><\/strong> espec\u00edficas en casos graves y urgentes. En tercer lugar, puede someter los casos ante la CorteIDH y actuar como defensa de las v\u00edctimas en esos litigios. La CIDH est\u00e1 integrada por siete miembros independientes que no representan a ning\u00fan pa\u00eds, sino que act\u00faan en representaci\u00f3n de todos los pa\u00edses miembros de la OEA. Funciona en Washington, D.C. (Estados Unidos). <\/p>\n Es importante destacar que todos los pa\u00edses del continente americano forman parte de la OEA, y por ende, las sentencias de la CIDH tienen valor en todo el continente.<\/strong> Es decir que los fallos no s\u00f3lo son vinculantes para el pa\u00eds demandado sino para todos los pa\u00edses americanos.
