Brasil tiene una extensi\u00f3n de 8.514.877 km\u00b2. La Poblaci\u00f3n actual es de 203.429.773. Pero de acuerdo al Censo del a\u00f1o 2000, cuando la poblaci\u00f3n era de 184 millones, los Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas ten\u00edan una poblaci\u00f3n de 734.000 personas, es decir un 0.4% de la poblaci\u00f3n brasilera. Actualmente la Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Nacional do \u00cdndio (FUNAI) se\u00f1ala la existencia de m\u00e1s de 800.000 ind\u00edgenas (FUNAI). Brasil es uno de los pa\u00edses con mayor diversidad \u00e9tnica, puesto que existen 241 Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas.<\/p>\n

De acuerdo al Conselho Indigenista Mission\u00e1rio (CIMI) existen 1024 tierras ind\u00edgenas, de las que 400 est\u00e1n tituladas (registradas, \u201creservadas\u201d y \u201cconstitu\u00eddas como tierras ind\u00edgenas\u201d); 129 en proceso de titulaci\u00f3n (identificadas, declaradas u homologadas); y 495 tierras ind\u00edgenas sin titular (a identificar, sin acciones, con restricciones, exclu\u00eddas). Las tierras ind\u00edgenas tituladas y en proceso de titulaci\u00f3n abarcan 1.105.258 km2, es decir el 13 % de la superficie nacional. Seg\u00fan el Instituto Socioambiental (ISA), de 988 tierras habitadas por poblaci\u00f3n ind\u00edgena, 323 se encuentran sin ninguna definici\u00f3n jur\u00eddica y 146 en estudio, pero a\u00fan sin ser identificadas como Tierras Ind\u00edgenas. En relaci\u00f3n con las tierras en proceso de demarcaci\u00f3n: 20 est\u00e1n identificadas; 60 est\u00e1n declaradas; 35 ya fueron homologadas y 366 est\u00e1n registradas. \nBrasil tiene 305 \u00e1reas protegidas, que representan el 7.6% del territorio nacional. De estas, 79 \u00e1reas protegidas se traslapan con territorios ind\u00edgenas. <\/p>\n

En 2007, la FUNAI revel\u00f3 la existencia de 67 tribus no contactadas, lo que caracteriza a Brasil como el pa\u00eds con mayor cantidad de pueblos en aislamiento voluntario en todo el mundo.<\/p>\n
