\nEs un pueblo que habita en La Mosquit\u00eda, territorio transfronterizo que abarca el norte de Nicaragua y el Sur de Honduras. En Nicaragua es el pueblo ind\u00edgena m\u00e1s grande de la Costa Caribe.
Son de origen Chibcha, con la particularidad de que en 1963, cientos de esclavos africanos que eran trasladados en un barco portugu\u00e9s, lograron escapar de sus captores, y fueron recibidos e integrados por los Miskitus . Su idioma es el Miskito.<\/p>\n

Ubicaci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Los Miskitu se distribuyen en la Regi\u00f3n Aut\u00f3noma del Atl\u00e1ntico Norte (RAAN), a lo largo del R\u00edo Coco o Wanki, en los Municipios de Waspam, Puerto Cabezas, Prinzapolka, Rosita y Bonanza . Representan la mayor\u00eda de la poblaci\u00f3n de los centros urbanos de Bilwi y Waspam, y casi un 50% en Corn Island.
En la Regi\u00f3n Aut\u00f3noma del Atl\u00e1ntico Sur (RAAS), habitan en el Municipio Desembocadura del R\u00edo Grande, y Laguna de Perlas . Forman parte de las comunidades multi\u00e9tnicas de Karawala, junto a los Sumus, y de las comunidades Sandy Bay Sirpy, Kara, Walpa, y la Barra.
Tambi\u00e9n hay comunidades Miskitu en el Norte-Centro del pa\u00eds, en el Departamento de Jinotega, donde los territorios Miskitus forman parte de la Reserva de Bi\u00f3sfera de Bosaw\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

\nDe acuerdo al VIII Censo de Poblaci\u00f3n realizado en el a\u00f1o 2005, en Nicaragua habitan 120.817 Miskitus.<\/p>\n

Organizaci\u00f3n Ind\u00edgena<\/strong>
\nA nivel comunal, son representados por su Consejo de Ancianos y Consejos Comunales.
\nEl Pueblo Miskitu integra la Asociaci\u00f3n para el desarrollo de los pueblos Sumos y Miskitos del sur de Jinotega (ADEPSUMISUJIN) (Ver seccion Organizaciones Ind\u00edgenas). Las mujeres Miskitu integran la Asociaci\u00f3n de Mujeres Ind\u00edgenas de la Costa Atl\u00e1ntica (AMICA) (Ver seccion Organizaciones Ind\u00edgenas).
\nLos Miskitu forman parte del Movimiento Ind\u00edgena de la Regi\u00f3n Aut\u00f3noma Atl\u00e1ntico Norte (MIRAAN) y del Movimiento Ind\u00edgena de la Regi\u00f3n Aut\u00f3noma Atl\u00e1ntico Sur (MIRAAS).<\/p>\n
