Son un pueblo transfronterizo que habita Costa Rica, Honduras y Nicaragua. Tambi\u00e9n llamados Mange, Cholultecas, Diri\u00e1n y Orotina. Es el pueblo ind\u00edgena m\u00e1s numeroso en Nicaragua.
Chorotega significa habitantes de Cholula, en el Estado de Puebla, M\u00e9xico, de donde procede este pueblo ind\u00edgena. Hablan idioma Chorotega y Espa\u00f1ol.<\/p>\n

Ubicaci\u00f3n<\/strong>
En la vertiente Pac\u00edfico de Nicaragua, dispersos en los Departamentos de Madriz, Nueva Segovia, Jinotega, Matagalpa, Chinandega y Masaya.<\/p>\n

Territorios<\/strong>
Abarca los Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas de Totogalpa, San Lucas, Cusmapa, Telpaneca y Mozonte. La extensi\u00f3n geogr\u00e1fica de los Pueblos en su mayor\u00eda remiten a sus t\u00edtulos, que en el caso de San Lucas indica la propiedad de 16.400 has.<\/p>\n

Poblaci\u00f3n<\/strong>
Seg\u00fan el VIII Censo de Poblaci\u00f3n (2005) son 46.002 personas. De acuerdo a la OIT (2006) son 166.000 personas. Los Chorotegas consideran que estas cifras no son reales, y afirman que su pueblo est\u00e1 conformado por 210.000 personas en Nicaragua.<\/p>\n

Organizaci\u00f3n Ind\u00edgena<\/strong>
La organizaci\u00f3n que los representa desde el 2003, es la Coordinadora de Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas Chorotegas (CPICH), que tiene sede en el pueblo de San Lucas (Ver secci\u00f3n Organizaciones Ind\u00edgenas<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

Forman parte del Consejo Regional Centro Norte, que est\u00e1 conformado por dos consejos territoriales: el territorio Chorotega (conformado por los pueblos ind\u00edgenas San Lucas, Telpaneca, San Antonio, Santa B\u00e1rbara y Mozonte, en los departamentos de Madriz y Nueva Segovia); y el territorio Diriangen (pueblos ind\u00edgenas S\u00e9baco y Jinotega).
Junto a los Nahua, integran el Consejo Nacional Ind\u00edgena de Pueblos Nahuatls y Chorotegas.<\/p>\n
