El Pueblo Mats\u00e9s es propietario de uno de los territorios m\u00e1s extensos que se hayan titulado a favor de un pueblo ind\u00edgena en el Per\u00fa: alcanza a 452.735 has abarcadas por la Comunidad Nativa Mats\u00e9s. Cada Anexo tiene un Jefe, y tambi\u00e9n existe la figura de Jefe de la Comunidad Nativa, y la Asamblea General de Delegados, quienes toman las decisiones en materia de recursos y territorio. Los Mats\u00e9s est\u00e1n representados en la Organizaci\u00f3n Regional de Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas del Oriente (ORPIO), pero no tienen una organizaci\u00f3n propia que los represente.<\/p>\n Adem\u00e1s del territorio titulado como Comunidad Nativa, en el 2009 Per\u00fa estableci\u00f3 la Reserva Nacional Mats\u00e9s, tal como fue propuesto por el Pueblo Mats\u00e9s. Las Reservas Comunales son una categor\u00eda de \u00c1rea protegida del Per\u00fa, destinadas a la conservaci\u00f3n de la flora y la fauna silvestre, en beneficio de las poblaciones rurales vecinas. Los encargados de su administraci\u00f3n son los mismos beneficiarios, quienes conforman una persona jur\u00eddica que puede ser multicomunal e intercultural, como en el caso de las Comunidades Ind\u00edgenas. Cultivando yuca, pl\u00e1tano, ma\u00edz, frijol, \u00f1ame, batata, pituca, pi\u00f1a, papaya, ca\u00f1a de az\u00facar y cocona. Tambi\u00e9n practican la caza, la pesca y la recolecci\u00f3n de frutos silvestres , realizando movimientos estacionales a trav\u00e9s del territorio. En invierno realizan chacras, y en verano pescan en los grandes r\u00edos. Entre ambas estaciones, realizan movimientos con diversas residencias temporarias en funci\u00f3n de su sistema alimentario y sus visitas a lugares sagrados. El 28 de junio de 2010, delegados del Pueblo Mats\u00e9s se trasladaron hasta Iquitos (capital de la Regi\u00f3n Loreto), tras dos d\u00edas de caminata, para pronunciarse p\u00fablicamente en contra de las empresas petroleras, y denunciar a la Empresa Pacific Stratus Energy S.A. por incursionar en sus territorios.<\/p>\n Solicitaron a las autoridades competentes (Presidente de la Rep\u00fablica, Ministros de Agricultura, de Energ\u00eda y Minas, Congreso de la Rep\u00fablica, y al Presidente de PeruPetro S.A.) que se anulen las concesiones de lotes petroleros en sus territorios. Los Mats\u00e9s o Mayorunas son actualmente 2200 personas, que viven en el Valle Yavar\u00ed que abarca partes de Per\u00fa y de Brasil. En el Per\u00fa, en la Regi\u00f3n de Loreto, Provincia de Requena, Distrito de Yaquerana, viven 1.700 personas de este Pueblo Ind\u00edgena . All\u00ed tienen titulado un territorio de 452.735 has, entre los R\u00edos Yavar\u00ed, Yaquerana, y G\u00e1lvez. Este territorio fue reconocido por el Estado inicialmente como Reserva de Tierras, en 1970.
