Los Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas tienen sus propias estructuras, sus instituciones y sus formas de gobernanza. Al mismo tiempo, sus instituciones interaccionan con las estructuras de gobierno, a nivel nacional, regional o municipal; y de esa relaci\u00f3n dependen en buena medida, las posibilidades de desarrollo sostenible y efectivo de las comunidades.<\/p>\n
Los ind\u00edgenas deben tener la oportunidad de participar en la toma de decisiones de sus pa\u00edses, como cualquier ciudadano. Pero adem\u00e1s, tienen derecho a participar desde su propia visi\u00f3n o cosmovisi\u00f3n, algo que a menudo les es negado por los Gobiernos y las instituciones sectoriales.<\/p>\n
La Gobernanza Ind\u00edgena implica que en la forma de gobernar, sean reconocidas la diversidad de cosmovisiones, valores y tradiciones culturales que caracterizan a los Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas; de manera de propiciar una toma de decisiones aut\u00e9ntica, y el control local. El desaf\u00edo de la Gobernanza Ind\u00edgena es la participaci\u00f3n de los ind\u00edgenas en las decisiones de gobierno y la sanci\u00f3n de leyes de acuerdo a sus usos y costumbres, la cual se considera fundamental para la protecci\u00f3n de sus derechos, y para establecer indicadores de progreso culturalmente pertinentes.<\/p>\n
